We recently added a new member to our family. Her name is Bessie Moocow. And she is an adorable, cuddly but often mischievous little thing. We picked her up two weekends ago from a family in Delta who was getting rid of a litter of kittens.
Jared, in an effort to look tough, often pretends to be indifferent to our new pet. But the truth of the matter is that he has quite a soft spot for her. And she for him. Her favorite spot for napping is nestled on Jared's shoulder snuggling his neck. They can get on each other's nerves but when it comes right down to it they are both quite attached to each other. And I think it's absolutely adorable.
We've given her several baths and we are fully aware of her hatred of water. She bolts whenever she hears water running anywhere in the apartment. She's even afraid of the water we hear from our neighbors. She is also terrified of the following things: my blowdryer, any noise that is foreign and/or unexpected, me when she knows she's doing something naughty, the candle that I sometimes burn in her bathroom, our bathroom (which is where she was first tortured with a bath), the train that runs past our apartment frequently...
Needless to say she embodies the term 'fraidy cat.
Bessie currently resides in our guest bathroom. And she has quite the accommodations in there. I've worked very hard to keep it clean and smell-free which is difficult with an indoor-only kitty. Jared went out and got her a scratching post to discourage her from clawing the furniture. (She still prefers sharpening her claws on our couch.) But we're slowly but surely distracting her to keep her from that unwelcome habit. Her favorite toy is also Jared's favorite. It's a little laser pen light that she spends hours chasing. It's hilarious. And we've found it to be a very effective method of keeping her out of trouble and tiring her out before bed.
She has an obsession with my shoes and purses. A cat after my own heart! Although I prefer to wear them while she prefers to bat mindlessly at them. Who am I to judge? She also enjoys the very strange act of dragging her self along the carpet on her side, an act which she performs repeatedly. At times she does this with her tongue out. Perhaps she feels that it is her responsibility to clean the carpets. It's hard to say what compels her to do this.
The torture of a bath.

I knew you would always get a cat. She is so cute and looks like a lot of fun. I want an animal so bad. Congrats
