April

Oh my! April has been an eventful month for us!

At the beginning of the month Jack had surgery. He had an adnoidectomy and tubes placed in his ears. We have dealt with too many dang ear infections and ruptured ear drums so we finally got him into an ENT. He was such a brave little guy and his recovery was much better than we expected. The nurses said that he would be extremely disoriented when he came out and that all kids cry after surgery. The poor little boy that shared our room before Jack's surgery was screaming bloody murder for a good fifteen minutes. As you can imagine, it freaked Jack out. But once they left he calmed right down and played with some toys that one of the nurses brought in. When they wheeled his bed out of the room he just waved at us like it was no big thing. But of course, as soon as he was gone I started bawling. Dr. Heras told us he failed his hearing test right before the surgery so it's a good thing we got him in to have this taken care of. When they brought him back to the room after the procedure he didn't even cry. He whined a little because he wanted the IV taken out of his hand but he didn't even do that for long.
I am so grateful for such a sweet, happy little boy. And for a wonderful husband who holds the priesthood and can give us blessings whenever we need extra help.

We had a pretty low-key Easter which is just how we like it. On Easter morning both Jack and Olive got new church outfits, a movie, a few toys, a giant bottle of bubbles and an expandable tunnel. And candy of course! Then we had an egg hunt in the yard with the two other families here at Alpine. Between all of us there are five boys and they have so much fun together. Later that evening we had a nice dinner with Katie and Parker and their boys. (Alexa and Nate didn't come because they had a family dinner.) The next day we colored eggs for FHE.

I love that Paxton is sneaking into the picture.

On the 15th we blessed Olive. It was a beautiful blessing. Jared has such a tender heart and I love that he gets emotional when it comes to our kids. I can hear in his voice how much he adores them and it makes the blessing that much more special. According to the men in the circle Olive was awake through the blessing just looking around at everyone. That's exactly what Jack did and it's such a relief because I felt so much anxiety that they would scream through their blessings. Not that it would matter either way but it's kind of neat that they were both so chill. We fit 57 people into our tiny apartment for the luncheon afterward. It was INSANE!!! But what a great reminder of how many people love us and our kids. Olive looked beautiful in the dress that my mom crocheted for her. Normally I don't love the crocheted look but it was sort of vintage and Olive is a vintage girl so it was perfect.

To top off our busy month Jack came down with a VERY severe case of hand, foot and mouth disease. YUCK! It was a nightmare. The poor kid was just covered in blisters. The worst ones were in his mouth and down his throat. I never could get a decent picture of those but they were everywhere; on the roof of his mouth, his gums, cheeks, tongue and down his throat. He even had sores around the outside of his mouth and on his ears. He wouldn't eat or drink anything for two days. He was in so much pain. He was constantly telling me, "Hurtes mommy. Hurtes." I was miserable because I couldn't do much for him and we had many sleepless nights. It was a long, grueling week for all of us.

This picture perfectly encapsulates our week.

On the brighter side, the blisters are finally going away, he has his appetite back and he's sleeping through the night again. I would be fine if we never have to deal with this garbage again.

Jared has been training with the AF Fire Department this month and it has been intense. But after it's over he'll take the state test and be officially certified as a firefighter/EMT. Then hopefully he can get on full time as soon as possible. And our little princess is two months old as of April 24th. What a sweetheart!!!

Olive is so cute!! We are so sad that we aren't there to meet her and hold her. I can't believe how fast she is growing up. We love you guys!
